Why is there a community home for children in Lincoln City?

Lincoln County Circuit Judge Paulette Sanders and Lincoln County Commissioner Bill Hall and others asked that a “Community Home For Children” be opened in Lincoln City. There are approximately 150 children in Lincoln County who are placed in foster care annually. Of these there are around 32 who are unlikely to be adopted or reunited by their families and bounce around the foster care system from one placement to another. They desperately need a safe, stable, nurturing home. Without intervention, these children are more likely to end up being abusers to their own children or end up in prison. Over a lifetime the cost to the community can exceed $1 million in social service costs.

There are 11 homes of this type in Salem with more to come.
